Hi, I’m Kathleen McQuillan-Hofmann

I’m a professional genealogist and history researcher. I love building family trees and writing narratives that tell clients about their people. And there’s nothing I enjoy more than introducing them to ancestors they’ve never heard of.

An expertise of mine is researching people through newspapers. I do this work when I am building a tree. However, if you have already built a tree, I would love to enhance your work by researching your ancestors through newspapers. From engagement announcements, wedding articles, real estate transactions, legal proceedings, obituaries, and probate notices, newspaper articles can provide insight into your ancestors that censuses alone simply can’t.

I recently taught a genealogy class for the University of Minnesota Duluth’s University for Seniors. The class, “Take a Look at This,” focused on the documents that are generated after someone dies: obits, death certificates, probate records, and more, and how these can be a gold mine for people researching their ancestors.

I earned my Masters in Humanities from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. I am a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists. I’m also a member of the Minnesota Genealogical Society, Minnesota Historical Society, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, and JewishGen.
